Well, it’s either a love of etymology or an ingrained pedanticism (‘What’s the difference?’ you wonder), but the etymology of “cite” is from the Latin to “set moving,” and “re-” means “once more, afresh, anew” (I cite the Concise OED). Since I want to reexamine the art and history of the recitation in the 19th and early 20th centuries in Britain and America, what better than to use the etymology of “recite” to amplify my blog title and provide its raison d’etre?
